Method and assumptions
Weight per horse × Chosen dry-matter forage target (% of bodyweight) / 100 − Known pasture dry matter per horse/day; ÷ (Hay dry matter / 100)The rate is expressed as dry matter. Pasture input is dry matter, not fresh grass weight. The amount to buy divides consumption by (1 − loss fraction). Adjust every assumption; these are not veterinary feeding instructions.
Monthly amounts use 30 days; annual amounts use 365 days. Budget transfers use annual cost divided by 12.
