Method and assumptions
⌈Hay eaten per horse/day, as fed × Number of horses × Number of days ÷ (1 − Share of purchased hay lost / 100) ÷ Weight of one bale⌉The rate is expressed as dry matter. Pasture input is dry matter, not fresh grass weight. The amount to buy divides consumption by (1 − loss fraction). Adjust every assumption; these are not veterinary feeding instructions.
